TUFF RIDER™ Urethane Liner by ZOLATONE®

DESCRIPTION
Tuff Rider Urethane Liner is a two-component sprayable urethane coating. Tuff Rider is water, solvent, chemical and abrasion resistant and also has excellent adhesion properties. It gives a tough, textured and glossy finish.

PHYSICAL DATA
• Pot Life at 70°F: 30 Min.
• Flash Point: 45°F (TCC)
• VOC Mixed: 231 Grams/Liter
• 40-50 sq. ft. per 2 quart kit depending upon substrate and application method.

SUBSTRATES
Tuff Rider Urethane Liner is designed for use over ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, fiberglass, concrete, plastic and woods, etc. Ferrous metals should first be cleaned and primed with an acid etch primer.

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING & EQUIPMENT
Where there is potential for skin and eye contact with Isocyanate compounds, it is a requirement for all persons to wear appropriate PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT, and clothing to prevent contact.
Protective wear includes:
• Coveralls (spray suit) chemical protective compatible wears.
• Head cover. Chemical protective.
• Footwear. Chemical protective.
• Gloves chemical protective.
• Eye protection, including air supplied self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
• For additional information please see the M.S.D.S.
NOTE: A full face supplied air respirator level B only must be used when working with Isocyanates. The self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) is a positive pressure unit.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
Isocyanates are odorless. When proper protection is not used, they can cause:
• Allergic sensitization
• Irritation of the eyes and lungs
• Upset stomach and vomiting
• Possible fevers
• Stuffiness of the nose
• Sore throat and a feeling of tightness in the chest
A full-face supplied air respirator such as (DeVilbiss # 165013) should be used when working with Isocyanates. However, absent from this, a brand new air purifying respirators may be used provided it is used with a combination organic vapor cartridge (NIOSH/MSHA) equipped with a P-100 filter. Use a brand new air purifying respirator each time you spray with Isocyanates. Another alternative is self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) in the positive pressure or continuous flow mode.
Check with local governing air regulations for the necessary clothing, equipment as well as respiratory protection guidelines.

MIXING
Mix 3 parts of 9239-0004 Black Base to 1 part of 9239-000C Catalyst. Use it within 30 minutes. Do not catalyze more than you can use in 30 minutes. For professional / industrial use only. Read application instructions before using.

APPLICATION PROCESS
• Apply over properly prepared and primed surface.
• Apply using a Schutz style Undercoating Gun mated with an air compressor capable of supplying ample CFM and air pressure.
• Set air pressure to approximately 50 PSI, which could be increased to 80 PSI if needed.
• Pour mixed material into the empty Schutz can.
• Start immediately spraying the surface with frequent passes until coverage is achieved and is uniform.
• If spraying a truck bed, work from the front of the bed, then sides and finally to the rear.
• Do not apply too thick of a film. Suggest no more than 15-16 mils. wet film thickness.

APPLICATION TIPS
• The narrow end of the paper funnels in the kit may be trimmed to provide a wider opening for the urethane material. Lightly tape these funnels to the top of the empty Schutz can to aid when pouring the urethane material.
• After spraying the urethane material, pull tape and masking materials 15-30 minutes after application.
• Pull tape and masking materials in such a manner so that if any stringing occurs that it falls back onto a previously sprayed area.
• Apply in an automotive spray booth only. Do not apply outside in the sun.
• Ideally, have a second person ready to catalyze the subsequent quart, as the previous quart is almost empty to ensure smooth spraying.
• Do not use Lacquer thinner to thin material when spraying in extremely hot conditions. Lacquer thinner contains solvents which can cause an accelerated catalyzed reaction with the urethane material.
• After application, material should not be exposed to dew rain or moisture for a period of 72 hours.
• For light use allow 72 hours dry time.
• For heavy use allow 7-10 days cure time.
• Force Dry. See Drying section below.

NOTE: APPLICATION IN TEMPERATURES ABOVE 90°F
• Catalyze only one quart at a time. Do not catalyze quarts ahead of time to avoid gelling.
• Minimize time between catalyzing of the next quart to avoid clogging spray gun.
• Ideally, have a second person ready to catalyze the subsequent quart, as the previous quart is almost empty to ensure smooth spraying.
• The preferred method for application in temperatures above 90 Degrees F is to place the Tuff Rider kit(s) in an air-conditioned room for approximately 4-5 hours before spraying. If an air conditioned room is unavailable, place the kit(s) in a refrigerator for 20-30 minutes to sufficiently cool the material to approximately 70 Degrees F. (Or, in lieu of any cooling abilities, you may do the following below. This may reduce texture and viscosity.)

• If the temperature of the material reaches 90-95°F., use 1 oz. Toluene to the base (short filled quart 24oz.) mix well, then catalyze with the half-pint of catalyst. This will require transferring the material to another container for mixing, adding Toluene and finally the catalyst.
• If the temperature of the material reaches 95-100°F., use 2 oz. Toluene to the base (short filled quart 24oz.) mix well, then catalyze with the half-pint of catalyst. This will require transferring the material to another container for mixing, adding Toluene and finally the catalyst.
• After spraying two quarts of material, clean the Schutz style gun with Toluene to avoid clogging.
• Avoid entrapment of moisture in the system by using a filter or moisture absorbing desiccant to trap moisture.

DRYING
Air Dry Times:
Dust Free: < 1 Hour
To Touch: 1-2 Hours
Before Exposure to Rain: 72 Hours
Before Light Use: 72 Hours
Force Dry:
Force dried at 140°F in 30-60 minutes. Allow 60 minutes flash time if using force air or baking.

BUFFING
Not necessary.
